2019 key findings include:

  • As we now have five years of data, it is evident that there are three recurring themes emerging from different data sources over this period. These themes provide a deeper understanding of the nature and consequences of drug and alcohol use in Dublin 15. The first theme identifies drug and alcohol use as a community wide issue crossing all socio-economic boundaries. The second theme is the normalisation of drug and alcohol use in Dublin 15. The third theme reports an increase in drug and alcohol use in Dublin 15.
  • From DATMS Year 1 to 5, treated drug users reported an increase in the use of alcohol, cannabis herb and cocaine powder.
  • Evidence of drug use during school hours in all 10 local secondary schools.
  • Easy access to drugs continues and is facilitated by an increase in the number of under 18s dealing.
  • Family members of drug users continue to report the negative impact drug and alcohol dependence has on the family.
  • Access to mental health services continues to be an issue.
