AAI welcomes the draft general comment on children’s rights in relation to the digital environment as developed by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.1 The draft general comment is comprehensive and covers a broad and complex area of social policy and law and sets out how states can and should uphold children’s rights in relation to digital environments.
Given that AAI is an organisation that focuses on reducing alcohol harm across the population, our submission is directed towards the issue of digital advertising2 of harmful commodities to children and the gathering of children’s data for the purposes of profiling or targeted marketing, as covered in the general comment.
