Compared with buprenorphine, low‐certainty evidence suggests that dihydrocodeine for detoxification of individuals with opiate use disorders may increase the number of people who discontinue treatment (on average, 70 more people per 1000). Furthermore, effects on abstinence and on overdose are too imprecise to suggest a direction of effect. Two RCTs involving 105 participants reported no deaths and no other adverse events.
