• As a result of restrictions to prevent the transmission of COVID-19, most SMART Recovery face-to-face meetings were required to cease globally
• To ensure people still had access to AOD mutual support, SMART Recovery rapidly scaled up the provision of online groups.
• The rapid expansion of online mutual support groups has created an opportunity to continue to offer online groups post-COVID-19.
• The challenge for SMART Recovery is ensuring that online meetings meet the needs of participants.
