1. Policy statement
This policy outlines procedures for the safe storage and handling of all prescribed medication for People Who Use Drugs (PWUD), including those prescribed Opioid Substitution Medication as part of treatment for opioid dependency
2. Purpose
To ensure that service user’s prescribed medication is stored and handled safely and that an accurate record is kept of any stored medication.
3. Scope
3.1. Non-clinical staff do not administer medication to service users. This procedure covers the storage and handling of service user’s medication while they are in an isolation unit.
3.2. This policy is for the management of medication on a short term basis particularly for People Who Use Drugs (PWUD) in isolation.
3.3. This policy does not cover social distancing, infection prevention and control requirements and Personal Protective Equipment requirements.
