The Irish Penal Reform Trust is Ireland’s leading independent charity campaigning for a penal system that is just and humane; protects and promotes human rights, equality and social justice; and uses prison as a last resort.

In April 2021, the High Level Taskforce on mental health, addictions and imprisonment was established, with former Minister of State Kathleen Lynch appointed as independent Chairperson. IPRT has had two opportunities to meet with the Taskforce since then, including an opportunity to consult on the Terms of Reference, and we look forward to engaging further with its important work and ambitious timeframe.
